Why I love being a Long Island east ender
There’s nothing like driving down Dune Road
My family recently moved out to the east end of Long Island and I never thought I would enjoy it so much. From the beautiful beaches, to shopping, to wineries and the Hamptons, there are so many reasons to love this part of the island.
The Peconic Bay
Anyone who has ever been here loves it. It’s not too rough, but not too quiet, just the perfect place to go to the beach.
Dune Road
Go down this beachy road on your way to the fabulous Cupsogue Beach. Loaded with tons of awesome beach houses and waterfront homes, it’s one of the most famous roads on this part of the Island.
Wineries
There are a plethora of wineries, where the rich traditional winemaking culture over the past four decades. Enjoy a glass of wine and the beautiful vineyards in the spring, summer or fall. Some highly rated ones include the Paumonok Vineyards, The Old Field Vineyards and Roanoke Vineyards.
Lighthouse Marina
Located on the south side of the North Fork on an inlet leading out to the Peconic Bay, Lighthouse Marina is a premier marina storing your boat. It’s full service with a “resort atmosphere” with a pool, great service and a new restaurant.
Phil’s
This newly opened restaurant at Lighthouse Marina in Aquebogue is always mobbed for it’s highly rated food. It’s family owned with a extensive menu, entertainment, and theme parties.
Tanger Outlets
Right off of Exit 72 on the Long Island Expressway is one of the awesome Tanger Outlets locations. In Tanger 1 and Tanger 2 are over there are over 200 stores with something for everyone, ranging from Vineyard Vines to Toys “R” Us to As Seen on TV to Starbucks in the food court. One of the best things about the outlets is that if you check in with your member card, you get a free coupon book, with hundreds of dollars in savings.
Splish Splash
Another attraction off of Exit 72 on the expressway is Long Island’s waterpark! This 96 acre park has been named by the Travel Channel as one of the best water parks in America with its awesome attractions and rides. Some include Bootlegger’s Run- the only water roller coaster in New York, along with many tube slides and body slides, two wave pools and a lazy river for you to enjoy.
Skydive Long Island
Want to jump out of a perfectly good plane? Jump from over 13, 500 feet up in the air and get a spectacular view of the forests and farmland before you jump.
Montauk Manor
This historic, summer resort is one of my favorite hotels. Built in 1927 by Carl Fisher, the developer of Miami Beach, it includes tennis courts, a pool, a spa, and ballrooms. The ambiance is grand and elegant, making every guest feel welcome and special.
