Every life lesson I learned from Gossip Girl

Tights are not pants

The CW original. The six season long masterpiece. The show with the best looking cast.

Here are the ten most important lessons I learned from this epic show and still remember today.

Always dress like a 10 and act like you can take on the world

Every single person on Gossip Girl is dressed in the latest fashion trends and carries a confidence like no other. They are always wearing opulent name brands like Louis Vuitton or Armani and they all most definitely dress to impress. Whether they are losing all their money or getting married to the wrong guy, they always look like a million bucks.

Some relationships really are forever

This show takes the term BFF very seriously. Whether is Blair and Serena or Chuck and Nate, these friends who grew up together really do always stay friends. No matter how many times they fight or stab each other in the back, true friendship wins. Same goes for relationships, like Chuck and Blair or Serena and Dan. These couples have been on and off for the entire series yet they ended up together and prove that true love prevails.

The grass is not always greener on the other side

Dan and Jenny were native to Brooklyn yet always dreamed of being a part of the Upper East Side. They soon learned it is not all the glam as it may seem. The Upper East Side kids have just as many problems as a Brooklyn native would. Switching their zip code did not solve all their problems as Little J had to leave New York because she could not handle it and Dan at times was exiled back to Brooklyn.

No, tights are not pants

The fashion guru Blair Waldorf stated very early on in the show that “no, tights are not pants.” There are many other tips Blair enforced like wearing a headband with the bow on the right and do not even dare to wear denim. As much as I love to follow Blair’s rules to fashion, I will always wear tights. Sorry, not sorry.

Always respect yourself

The characters treated themselves at a high level and maintained their health. Some characters struggled with drug problems, others eating disorders, but in the end they all showed a healthy lifestyle they all practiced and loving themselves just the way they are.

Chase your dreams. Be independent.

Every character has made sacrifices to attain their dreams. Whether they gave up love or friendships, once a character set their mind on something, they would not stop until they attain it. Nate did not let anyone come in the way of making The Spectator a success, just like how Chuck did for The Empire. Blair paused her relationship with Chuck so she could be an independent woman before she was with him.

Secrets don’t stay secrets forever

Gossip Girl made sure everything was out in the open. No matter the scandal, Gossip Girl made sure to drop the bomb whenever it would cause the most destruction. She kept everyone on their toes and shared everyone’s secrets, sparing no one.

People can change

The beauty of this show is how every single character evolved as the show progressed. To name a few, the notorious Chuck Bass started out the show as an overly-privileged player who took whatever he wanted whenever he wanted. He turned into a man who owned multi-million-dollar company and was capable of loving the beautiful Blair Waldorf. Speaking of Blair, she started out the show as a typical mean girl who would manipulate her way into getting what she wanted. She later matured into a successful businesswoman who proved her independence and showed her kind side.

‘Things are never as bad as you think’ – Blair Waldorf

Blair may have always came off as rude or bitchy at times, but she kept a sense of optimism. She never quit and would always be reassuring when the time came. As crazy as it may seem, Blair really had a kind side.

And most importantly, I’M CHUCK BASS

The most notorious line of the show that the handsome Chuck Bass will use as an explanation or response for basically anything. Being like Chuck Bass is a dream, yet no one can replicate that level of perfection.

Whether you grew up watching this show or caught up on it through Netflix, you become obsessed and feel as if you are a part of the show. Gossip Girl will always be one of the best shows to ever air.
