This is how to properly highlight your face

All about that princess glow

Somewhere deep inside your makeup bag there is probably a tube or compact labeled “highlighter.” And you may have attempted to use this product to make your skin glow like a Kardashian because that’s what they use, right?

If you know me, I’m possibly the worst person when it comes to makeup because I barely wear any, but recently, that’s changed. Any kind of highlighter is a beauty gem. It can do so much for you, from making you look more awake to contouring your face.

Many girls spend time contouring their faces (props to them, I’m still trying to learn how to do that) but a highlighter can do almost the same tricks in a quicker way.

I purchased the Laura Geller, Gilded Honey at Ulta for $28 in order to try this new trend. I can honestly say, it has led me to feel like the fairy that I’ve always dreamt of being.

OK, so how does one apply this highlighter stuff? I read a bunch of articles describing the “target areas” and was able to narrow it down to the main three: Eyes, Cheeks, and lips (mainly your cupid’s bow).

I tried out these three areas and noted that they really illuminated my eyes and temples. I felt like I looked more awake and also like I actually did have my life together.

Eyes

Just like any other babe in our era, we basically don’t sleep but also expect our skin to be flawless. Well, according to  makeup artist Laura Geller, “Highlighter helps banish dark circles, since it diffuses any darkness underneath your eyes and creates a soft-focus effect.”

When applying it to your eyes, blend it underneath the eyebrow on the brow bone and into the inner crease. The lightness on the inner crease will open up your eyes and the brow bone.

Cheeks

When applying it to your cheeks, blend it on the highest point of your cheekbone and up towards your temple. This is especially important if you’re doing any contouring as it will draw attention away from the makeup-made shadows.

Lips

If you’re like me, you’ve always wanted a bigger lip but have said no thanks to the Botox. Ta-dah I have found the trick. Applying highlighter to your cupids bow instantly opens up your lips and makes them look twice as large.
