Everything you know after your freshman year in the South
You will start saying y’all – don’t fight it
After freshman year is over, there are a thousand things ex-freshmen understand better – and when you go to college in the South it’s no different.
No matter where you come from, everyone adopts the Southern hospitality and becomes incredibly friendly
In the South you can be friends with basically anyone.
Student bodies in the South are like a family, and you soon realize there’s no limit to how many people can fit in a dorm room:
It’s just the South working its magic!
Depending on where you are, the beach is no further than a few hours away
What’s more fun than taking a road trip to formal with your friends and enjoying your week end at the beach? Convenient right?
Going to college in the South is so convenient for music festivals
Ever realized that Music Midtown is right there? And Mardi Gras in New Orleans and Ultra Music festival?
When these come around, we all know why half of the class is not here!
I promise, we also work very very hard
We do… the main difference is that most of the year we study outside!
On the countless warm and sunny days, good luck finding space on the grass.
Sweet tea – or everything sweet and cold: adopting that Southern lifestyle
You will spend all your money on sweet and strong beverages.
I probably consumed more tea than water in the dining hall, and it’s not just me!
Everyone wears huge shirts and Nike shorts
Everyone just wants to be comfortable and visible!
When I packed my stuff at the end of the year I realized all of my college shirts were huge and bright… Red, purple, yellow, green?
Got them all!
But going to college in the South is also the most beautiful
We get so many bright and sunny days – Southern campus’s are gorgeous and filled with flowers.
You forget what a winter coat is
I only had to wear it like three times.
I realize the South does not understand what winter is… When college officials see snow on the weather forecast (Winter is coming!) they freak out and call a snow day right away!
Y’all will become a key part of your vocab
You thought only people from the South said that word? Think again.
You can try to fight it, but you won’t succeed.
There’s no place like the South, y’all!
