York’s 66 bus route will no longer be free on campus

The new ub2 route will provide free campus travel

As of September 27th, the 66 & 66A campus bus routes will no longer be free for students travelling between Hes East and West Campus.

Instead, a new route will be in place to provide free campus travel known as the ub2, a higher frequency service to the existing ub1 route.

The new bus route will start from Wentworth College on Campus West and travel to sports village on Hes East Campus via the Heslington Hall bus stop.

The new bus route, similarly to the 66 will be free for all students, providing you show your student card to the driver.

Ub1 routes will continue to run from Halifax College across to Hes East Campus running every thirty minutes.

The only exceptions are for students living in Fairfax House or students travelling to The Retreat which will remain free journeys on the 66 bus as long as you again show your student card when purchasing a bus ticket.

The University of York strives to continue to provide free bus travel between Campus East and West, but are promoting walking and cycling to students over bus travel where they can.

First Bus Services will providing staff at key times in the day along new routes to help students use the new services across campus. They ask students to remain vigilant of all social distancing rules on buses and at bus stops and to wear their face coverings at all times.

If you’re exempt to wearing facial coverings on public transport, students can either wear the sunflower lanyard or download an exemption card from the First website to show to the bus drivers.  Students can also use the First Bus app to check bus seat availability.
