YUSU Shop is closing down, so where are we supposed to get our meal deals from now?

This is surprisingly hard news to take

The YUSU shop on Market Square is to close at the end of this academic year.

The shop, which provides us not only with meal deals and a postal service, but also stationery and University of York merch, has been deemed not financially viable to continue in its current format.

YUSU prez, Alex Urquhart, said in a Facebook post the decision was taken due to a variety of factors such as the emergence of online and local competition, as well as rising costs.

All student staff who work in the shop will be offered a role elsewhere, and retail staff will also be offered redeployment opportunities.

Alex also said that whilst the decision was a hard one to make, it was the right choice for the organisation. He mentioned that services offered by the shop will be continued elsewhere.

It is unclear as of yet if there will be a new store to take over the space once it closes at the end of the academic year.
