York has remained in 20th place in the UK University League tables for 2018 according to the The Complete University Guide. The university stays in the same position as it was last year, stopping a decline which had set in since 2014 where the university had been ranked in 12th place.

York had a range of subjects in the top ten that include Archaeology, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, English, French, Italian, Nursing and Social Policy.

Student satisfaction and research quality scored highly, each receiving 3.17/4.00 and 4.20/5.00 respectively. However reviews left by students on the page were markedly more mixed with praise coming in for subjects such as Chemistry and History but strong criticism for Nursing.

In the spirit of Roses 2017, our comparison to Lancaster University does not fare as well as we might have initially assumed. Lancaster were ranked in the top ten this year in 9th place, and also had more courses in the top ten that include Politics, Geography and Environmental Sciences, Social Work and Accounting and Finance.

The universities who made up the top ten along with Lancaster include Oxbridge, Durham, LSE and UCL. However, York did beat Lancaster in its scores for student satisfaction and research quality, along with its entry standards being higher.

Oh, and York St. John came 122nd.
