York is the 60th best university in Europe

We beat Leeds, Nottingham and Liverpool

The University of York is the 60th best university in Europe according to a new league table.

UK institutions took a quarter of the top 200 places in the latest Times Higher Education European University rankings, with Oxford coming 1st, Cambridge 2nd, and Imperial 3rd.

Other notable UK universities to rank highly were:

  • University College London (5th)
  • LSE (6th)
  • Edinburgh (7th)
  • Manchester (18th)
  • Bristol (23rd)
  • Durham (24th)
  • Exeter (38th)

The country with the second highest number of universities in the top 200 was Germany with 36.

Felix Aylett, a third year History student told the Tab, “I’m surprised it’s that high!”

The rankings were calculated by performance in criteria such as teaching, international outlook and research. If aspects of York such as The Courtyard Bar and our campus waterfowl were taken into consideration we’d have scored higher. Maybe even a top 10 place if Willow was still open…
