There will be a ‘No Rape Culture on Our Campus’ demo on the Piazza tomorrow night

The protest is in response to the Warwick group chat incident

| UPDATED

A demonstration will be held tomorrow, Friday 11th, in response to the Warwick boys' group chat.

11 Warwick University students have been temporarily suspended after making rape jokes in a group chat.

Messages sent include: "Sometimes it's fun to just go wild and rape 100 girls" and "She looks like a rape victim".

The demo will begin at 7pm on the Piazza, and will then be followed by a rally and march around Warwick campus, ending outside the Arts Centre at 8:30pm.

The demo will be jointly held by a number of societies: Warwick Anti-Sexism, Anti-Racism, Jewish Society, Free Education Association, Pride and Enable, in light of their recent joint statement given in response to the sexual assault and violence reported on Warwick campus.

Speakers at the event include the 2018/19 NUS Women's Officer, Sarah Lasoye, outgoing and incoming Presidents of Warwick Anti-Sexism Society (WASS), Larissa Kennedy and Lanaire Aderemi, with more speakers to be announced soon.

The event's stated aim is to "make some noise and assert our right to be safe on campus".

The societies involved in the creation of the event have said: "We live here, we work here, we study here, and we should always be able to feel safe from sexual violence here- but sometimes we don't".

A full, joint, cross-society statement on that can be found here.
