Leamington Spa has been voted as the happiest place to live in the United Kingdom.

The Rightmove survey, published today, asked more than 17,000 people from 159 areas of the UK to rate their homes.

Twelve 'happiness factors' were used, including: feeling safe, the friendliness of locals, the local services available, and earning enough to live comfortably.

The Warwickshire town was among three other spa towns that featured in the top 10.

Rightmove said Royal Leamington Spa scored highly for friendly neighbours, a strong sense of belonging, a place where locals feel they can be themselves and good access to nature and green spaces.

The popular spa town does not come cheap, however. With Leamington's average house price being almost £20,000 more than the national average.

Leamington mayor Caroline Evetts welcomed the news, saying, “Leamington has it all, from our wonderful Regency buildings, impressive parks and gardens as well as a unique mix of high street shops and independent boutiques.”
