New student accommodation in Coventry could be city’s tallest building

A £50 million development has been proposed

Planning permission has recently been granted for a new student accommodation block which will become Coventry’s tallest building.

CODE Student Accommodation submitted plans to Coventry City Council in August to build the 1,000 bedroom development on the 600-space car park, and the plans have now been approved.

The £50 million development will be a 21-storey building, at around 200ft tall. This beats the 20-storey Belgrade Plaza development, which is currently under construction. The plans also show that the ground floor will be used as retail units.

A benefit outlined in the planning statement was that the development is “likely to release traditional terrace housing currently occupied by students in the locality for family and non-student use.”

Developers have said that they want to create a high-quality and landmark development that “would benefit from a move away from the traditional rectangular/square box appearance”.
