Apparently there’s a Banksy graffiti in Leamington

It’s on Gloucester Street

A piece of street art has recently appeared on a wall on Gloucester Street, with many suspecting the famous graffiti artist Banksy is responsible.

The graffiti depicts George Osbourne with a red nose, and has Banksy’s signature at the bottom of the work.

The piece appeared on a wall behind the new Helping Hands charity shop on Gloucester Street in Leamington Spa. The charity state that they did not know anything about the artwork until it appeared this week.

Lianne Kirman, a spokeswoman from the charity said:  “It just appeared in the back alley at the back of our shop and someone pointed out it said Banksy on the bottom of it, which I hadn’t even noticed.

“I just presumed it was fake but others have been showing an interest in it, so now I’m intrigued. I think it must be a fake but it’s caused a bit of a stir.”

No one has come forward to claim the art as their own, so speculation continues as to whether the piece is in fact a genuine Banksy.

Final year Maths student Angus Hamill said: “It’s not hard to be a Banksy copycat when his signature is just a stencil”.

However, Adam Richardson, a History finalist said that “it doesn’t bother me whether it’s Banksy or not, but it’s quite a funny piece.”
