Further U1 delays as the Parade closes from next week

As if the U1 wasn’t already bad enough

The Leamington Parade is set to close from next week, due to the high street roads being refurbished.

The Upper Parade is expected to be closed from Sunday 16th October, until Friday 28th of October.

The works will be carried out under a 24-hour full road closure of The Parade from Clarendon Avenue to Dormer Place with additional road closures of Regent Street and Dormer Place.

As a result, the buses will no longer be serving any of the stops on the Parade.

The only stop still in operation will be the bus stops outside and opposite the All Saints Parish Church in the South.

For everyone else, Guy Street, opposite Argos, will be used as a temporary boarding and alighting point.

Considering the already poor service from Stagecoach since the beginning of term, students are now even more disappointed to hear that the planned works will further interfere with the U1 bus services.

Rajan Bains said: “Obviously it can’t be helped, but they know that term has just started. Why couldn’t the works have taken place during summer?”

Abby Bowman added: “The queues are already quite bad because of general delays.

“It’s going to be an unnecessarily more difficult commute for those living in Leamington.”

Warwickshire Council have sent out a letter today to all affected residents, in which they state that cooperation will “help to ensure the works are carried out as quickly and safely as possible.”
