Purple is now going to cost you £1.70 when you circle

It’s gone up a whole 20p

The long-known £1.50 circling Purple deal is no longer in force, as the SU have now raised the price to £1.70.

Although the SU website still lists the price as £1.50, this week’s Pop! saw students rummaging through their purses for the additional 20 pence.

The Somersby, Carlsberg and Britvic Blackcurrant squash, more commonly known as Purple, has forever been embedded in Warwick tradition.

As a result, sports clubs and societies are not thrilled with the change.

Hockey player, Kiran Dhoot, said: “The price of Purple was the main selling point of the drink.

“It’s unnecessary to raise the price given the vast quantities bought every Wednesday, allowing for decent profits for something quite cheap to make.

“It’s just quite an annoying move for those who circle frequently in particular.”

Final-year student, Rajan Bains, added: “Some things should not be messed with. This is one of them.”

Duncan Parkes, Venue Manager at the SU, said: “The price of circling drinks has remained at £1.50 for the past six years, during which time there have obviously been yearly increases.

“We’ve done our best to maintain all of our prices throughout this time and are continuing to try to preserve the general cost of drinks so that the majority of our members benefit, but we do have to increase prices somewhere to ensure that we are not losing money.

“The main reason is for our commercial operations, as well as providing commercial services to fund the support services for our membership such as advice and welfare, providing support for societies and clubs.”
