Warwick University drop-out rate hits record high

It’s the highest since 2001

The Higher Education Statistics Agency revealed that this year Warwick University suffered the highest drop-out rate for students in over 10 years.

The rate of drop-outs for the 2013/14 student cohort is 4.5 per cent, and compared to Cambridge’s rate of 1.1 per cent, it’s a pretty shocking figure.

A Warwick University spokesperson has hit back, claiming that the difference of 0.8 per cent from last year’s figures is not ‘statistically significant’.

They also attacked the word ‘drop-out’ as an unfair way of describing many students who choose to pursue their studies elsewhere or have particular medical or social reasons to take a gap in their studies.

It might not be all that bad though – at least finding a space in the library might become less of a challenge.
