Armed police storm engineering building after ‘massacre’ message hoax

They questioned a student

Armed police stormed the engineering building on Library Road after a message warning about a ‘massacre’ on campus was flagged up on Twitter last night.

A post on Circleboard.org by user Dominicxhw read: “massacre tomorrow by [omitted name] in lecture theatre l3 at warwick university, 12pm (check the news).”

The individual added: “they shut part of the uni down because of a bomb threat on my first day so they would unironically take measures, probably lool.”

In response armed police stormed the engineering building and questioned a students about the threatening post.

“No arrests were made in relation to the threat and enquiries into the hoax message are currently on-going.”

The University also posted a statement on Twitter: “Armed Police Officers from West Midlands Police attended campus today in order to enquire if an individual was present who they wished to speak to.

“The circumstances that they wished to speak to them about were not related to any of the current national security matters being investigated by UK police forces.

The police left the campus after making contact with the individual who was in fact not on campus but in a totally different region of the UK.

“We are informed that on speaking to the individual concerned that the police were satisfied that the individual had absolutely no knowledge of the matter they were looking into.”

Investigations remaining ongoing.
