Police appeal for witnesses after harassment of woman, 18, in Leamington

Not again

An 18-year-old woman was harassed by a man in a parked car.

The victim was called over to the left hand drive, silver Estate, and harassed with inappropriate sexual comments in the early afternoon on Milverton Hill, Leamington Spa.

Police are appealing for any sightings or information regarding this event, and have released a description of a white, chubbily-built man in his twenties, with messy brown/ginger hair and a foreign accent. His car also has a foreign registration.

The incident, which occured on January 12,  is just one more example of anti-social behaviour, which makes up nearly half the reported crimes in North Leam, with 765 reports during 2014 alone.

The troubling attack has led some first year students to be relieved that they are not living in Leamington next year.

Tamanna Rahman, a 19 year old Engineering student, said: “I’m relieved to be living in Earlsdon next year; it seems a lot safer than what I’ve heard about in Leam.”

18-year-old History and Politics student Michael Dean said: “It’s bloody ghastly in this day and age. I’d expect everyone to feel safe in this kind of area.”

Yet not everyone thinks so highly of Leamington: 19-year-old Yiyi Wu, another Engineering student, wasn’t surprised at the news. He said: “I’ve heard a lot of bad rumours about Leamington, with lots of dangerous hot spots all over town.”

However, Chemistry student Sian Franklin is not worried. She said: “I’m a black belt in martial arts, so personally I’m not too concerned about such incidents.”

Anyone with any information should contact the police on 101, referencing incident number 263 of 12th January.
