Ed Miliband visits Warwick

He spoke at The West Midlands Regional Labour Conference. And got a lot of selfies.

Labour leader Ed Miliband came to campus yesterday and ended up filling everyone’s news feeds.

Ed spoke in the Ramphal Building about zero-hours contracts as part of The West Midlands Regional Labour Conference.

Ed also agreed to take some photos with the Warwick Labour society, which blew up everyone’s news feed as he became the height of selfie-chic.

Unsurprisingly, there was a range of political reaction on Facebook to the selfies with Ed:

But Warwick Labour were 100% chuffed with the visit.

Publicity Officer Alex Denning said: “Ed is absolutely brilliant in person, there was huge energy and a buzz wherever he made an appearance.

“He spoke for an hour on campus and his speech was great with a new policy announcement that was very well received.

“I think everyone got the impression he really understands the issues facing this country and can take Labour into office next May.

“We managed to arrange meeting Ed and getting a photo after he’d spoken to some businesses in Warwick Manufacturing Group.

“The press took a couple of photos and then we were straight in getting our own pictures with him. Ed’s team wanted to leave but Ed was very generous and now, more or less, the whole of Warwick Labour has their profile picture set to a selfie with Ed.”

In the speech, Ed criticised zero-hour contracts. He particularly attacked Sports Direct claiming it would be a “terrible place to work”, with 17,000 out of 20,000 of its staff not guaranteed regular hours.
