All for charity: Warwick girls embark on 48 hour rowing marathon

Dig deep

The Warwick rowing girls are famous for their charity work – their recent naked calendar dropped jaws and raised eyebrows everywhere.

Now the tireless girls have set off on an epic 48 hour rowing marathon to raise money for Macmillan cancer support.

Twenty-five rowers set off yesterday on a two day long event to raise money and awareness for Macmillan – which provides support and care for cancer-stricken patients.

They’re bravely rowing through rain and temperatures of 12C and are expected to finish tomorrow.

Effort: The rowers are rowing throughout the night to raise money

The event is sponsored by Santander and Red Bull and has raised a huge following so far.

Already they’re looking to smash last year’s record of £900 – that was later doubled by Santander.

Sophie Bell, a third year History and Politics student, is the organiser of the naked calendar and the 48 hour marathon.

She said: “It means a lot to both myself and other members in the club and I think Macmillan resonates with most people as an incredibly worthy charity.

“Fundraising has also been a really great way to get to know all of the freshers – when we’re all sober.”

Sophie now hopes the event will be set in stone as a future even to raise money for Macmillan.

Good luck to the rowers in raising as much money as possible – you can donate here.
