What you missed over the Summer months- campus and surrounding areas

We’ve pulled out some of our favourite news stories from the Summer months, so you can chat to old people at the bus stop like you have never been away.

On campus

Firstly, Warwick has been named university of the year and has been placed 8th in the UK league tables- Hooray! University may be costing a bomb at the moment, but at least we’re at a top institution!

Campus altered by road works

If you’re a fresher then this probably has little impact on you, so after your parents have navigated the troubled waters to your halls, enjoy strolling along the shiny new tarmac, taking selfies next to sparkling road signs and drinking in the now treeless atmosphere, while everyone else gets confused about what areas they can now walk on without getting run down by the car of an angry lecturer who is also puzzled by the improvements.

Coventry

Coventry has been named a top tourist destination in the Midlands.

Here’s a quick list of the great things you can do in the city next door:

1) Visit the Cathedral

2) Visit the Transport Museum

I bet all you people that jetted off on a tropical break sure feel jealous now.

Kenilworth

‘Random Gift co’ opens in Kenilworth

The ‘quirky’gift shop opened on June 25th, and promises to provide comic nik-naks for that special and, erm, random person in your life.

It certainly does seem to stock a broad array of stuff- from scented candles to tins adorned with comical phrases. Do these shops get less common and more appreciated the further North you go?

The South is absolutely packed with them. They must be leaking out into the rest of the country, taking over…

Anyway, it’s something that you’ve missed, so next time you accidentally hop on the bus that diverts through Kenilworth instead of going directly to Leamington, go peruse the new store. Buy a Roadkill cuddly toy (epic). Brighten your day.

Leamington

This is perhaps my favourite- an 89 year old man has been stopped by the police after scooping up his dog and trying to travel to Coventry on the motorway…on a mobility scooter.

Police had been keeping an eye on the Need For Speed fanatic for a while as he had apparently taken to this hobby before. So keep your eyes peeled for an older gentleman with a speed-crazed look in his eye, and a terrified dog in the front basket, because he’s probably about to try doing donuts in Leamington station car park.
