Warwick named University of the Year

Looks like Woxbridge does exist

Warwick has been named University of the year – beating both Oxford and Cambridge.

The University also climbed two places to 8th in the UK in the overall league table of the two papers.

Warwick’s vice chancellor Professor Nigel Thrift said he was delighted at the news.

He said: “Our greatest achievement of the past 50 years has been to remain student focused.

“The four parts of Warwick’s genetic code are: a commitment to outstanding teaching; absolute academic excellence; the economic regeneration of the West Midlands; and Internationalism expressed through partnerships with academic institutions around the world.”

And it’s not just Nigel who’s happy. The table reveals 84% of Warwick students are happy with their choice and 78.1% of students go on to a professional job or graduate level study – proving Woxbridge is definitely a thing.

Deeming Warwick a “powerhouse of teaching excellence”, a spokesman for the two papers justified their choice. They said: “Warwick has been an ever-present in our top 10 over the past two decades. A place to study here is highly prized.

“The university will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year and in its first half century has established a formidable reputation on the national and international stage as a powerhouse of teaching excellence and business-focussed research.

“The university tops five of our specialist subject tables this year – only two fewer than Oxford.”

On Sunday The Times and Sunday Times will publish their University Guide, with Warwick University being named their University of the Year.

This comes just after Warwick was named 3rd in world in the QS World University Rankings top 50 under 50 table 2013.
