SU apologise over fresher wristband website fiasco

Students were left in the lurch after the SU’s ticket system failed

The SU’s website crashed the moment freshers’ week tickets became available – preventing students from ordering event wristbands.

Students had to wait for hours for the site to load, leaving many without a Freshers’ Pass to the biggest nights of the week.

Many payments were left unprocessed or transactions failed, and in some cases students were still charged.

Alfred Wrigley, 18, did not receive his Freshers’ Pass but the SU website still took money out of his account.

The Ancient History and Archaeology student said: “It was literally a joke. It took me seven hours and I couldn’t get a ticket at all. The site was utterly ridiculous and ill prepared. My money hasn’t been refunded.”

Lucy Forbes, 18, set to read Biochemistry, did not receive her pass after a successful payment, leaving her without enough money to buy individual tickets.

Imogen Sackey, who will study History, feels that getting a pass is the key to having a fun Freshers’ Week.

The 18-year-old said: “Having the Fresher’s Pass means you don’t have to worry about meeting people with the same interests on day one.”

Warwick SU released a statement admitting to problems in the booking system.

They said: “We apologise unreservedly for the problems experienced during the sale of Fresher’s tickets on Wednesday.

“We are still trying to ascertain the cause of the issues, but are working hard in the meantime to rectify the situation for all our members affected!”

The union have said if duplicate tickets are returned, students can apply for a waiting list to buy them. They promised to give the money back if students had been charged more than once but warned it would take some time to return the money.
