Petition Fever Over Controversial Roadworks

A petition set up by second year BioMed student Rose Hodgson has hit high popularity that proposes to delay planned roadworks on Gibbet Hill Road that will cause disruption for next terms exams.

After numerous unique events occurring at Warwick University: Thrifty’s pay rise and student led lectures, to name a few, you would think Thrifty & Co would know not to temper the students any more.

But, alas, planned roadworks at the height of exam stress in May of this year has led to even more student discomfort and, thus, a formal petition being published on the HM Government website.

The petition was created by second year student BioMed, Rose Hodgson, who has accumulated over 900 signatures in a matter of days and clearly shows increased student discomfort and added stress that goes towards these exams. The petition  states that:-

“By this e-petition we endeavour to prevent or delay the roadworks by Gibbet Hill scheduled to commence in May 2014, as we believe it will have a negative impact on students undertaking exams during this period, causing both unnecessary stress and uncertainty. As the student body is a major part of the local community, we believe it would only be fair to take into consideration the consequences of the timing of the planned work.”

The e-petition has received over 900 signatures in a matter of days.

The clear attention the e-petition has got over social networking sites shows another unpopular decision by the University and the creator of the e-petition, Rose Hodgson expresses that the petition is in all of the interest of Warwick students.

She said: “Well I heard about the roadworks in an SSLC meeting from a transport officer, I talked to my house mates etc. and found nobody had heard of it so I started the petition online to raise awareness.

I have emailed local councillors and I think I’ll use the petition more as a way of showing how much interest there is in delaying them”

Rose (right) created the petition to delay the roadworks.

As seen the petition is only to delay, not cancel, such road works and to relieve some unwanted and unneeded stress for exams later on next term.

Rose Hodgson’s petition is to raise awareness of such roadworks,  therefore feel free to sign the petition and helps towards proposed delays.
