New Sainsbury’s at former Leamington pub site

Not enough local convenience stores to choose from in Leamington? Don’t worry, another one is on its way…

Following a refusal by Warwick District Council’s planning committee to build a Sainsbury’s convenience store in Radford Road, the company lodged an appeal and planning permission was finally granted.

Did anyone even go here?

Despite locals petitioning against it due to fear of disruption and negative impacts on Old Town shops, Oak Inn, a former Leamington pub will soon be transformed into another shopping store.

Narinderpal ‘Nikky’ Rai of Rai’s supermarket had described the application as an “unscrupulous attempt” by Sainsbury’s to “take over the grocery trade” in the area.

Patrick Joyce, regional acquisitions manager for Sainsbury’s, has said: “The store will bring further choice to residents looking to top-up their shopping locally and will regenerate a derelict site.”
