A cash machine was blown up on Gloucester Road this morning

Police are investigating what is believed to be a gas bomb that was used

Fireworks night had come early for people living by the Sainsbury's Local on Gloucester Road.

At around 4am, it is believed that thieves used a gas bomb to blow up the free-standing cash machine round the corner from Sainsbury's.

The cash machine was badly damaged and police believe a quantity of money was taken.

This will be the second known attack of this kind in Bristol this week, after an ATM was blown up in Whitchurch on Halloween.

Seth Piper tweeted after being woken up by the explosion this morning "They took the 'FREE CASH' sign literally'.

The immediate area is still cordoned off and the police forensic team are currently investigating.
