Coursework deadlines extended by 24 hours following cyber hack

Our prayers have been answered

The uni has granted students a 24 hour extension on deadlines due in today after a nationwide cyber hack left many with disrupted internet services.

The network experienced a Denial of Service attack earlier today which hampered internet connectivity and access to library services.

But in an email the university assured all students that today’s deadlines will be extended by a whole 24 hours.

Thank God

The WiFi problems began due to Janet, the publicly funded computer network which also maintains the Portal, being hacked.

The loss of signal left hapless students struggling to access essay results and submit assessments.

UWE isn’t the only place to be experiencing problems.

Janet operates at other institutions, with up to 35 other universities affected.

But for some students the disruption couldn’t have come at a better time.

Second year Business and Accounting Student Ella said: “My unfinished essay was due at 2pm today and we’ve all just found out it’s been extended by 24 hours.

“My prayers have been answered.”
