Happy Strike Day

Staff at UWE are on strike over a pay row.

UWE staff are on strike today, they’ll be taking to the picket lines at Frenchay and St Matt’s in protest against low pay.

Coming soon to a campus near you.

The University and College Union has called for action. Michael MacNeil of the UCU said: “Staff in universities and colleges are taking strike action to say enough is enough. They have seen their pay slashed in real terms since 2009 and this year’s miserly pay offer, at a time of rising bills, was the straw that broke the camel’s back”

Staff are hoping to have “a few more people” on Tuesday’s strike than last time.

As the wailing of distraught students fills the air, here are the Tab’s top tips for how to spend Strike Day:

  • Sleep all day
  • Contemplate your actions from last night
  • Drink all day
  • Get your Christmas shopping sorted
  • Buy yourself something nice
  • Join the picketing
  • Set up a food stall next to the picketing and make some money during the day.
  • Go see The Hunger Games
  • Go play Jungle Rumble mini golf (if you can still stand after the all-day drinking)
  • Or you could work
