UWE A-Z Part 1

The Tab guide to the 26 best bits of Bristol

Apple (The)

A

A ‘Cider Barge’, moored up at the end of King’s street with over 40 different ciders… It’s a boat of cider. Go there.

B-irdcage (The)

For those of you too alternative for Costa and Starbucks, this is a quirky café on Clare Street… Amazing cakes, open mic nights, cinema screenings and it sells vintage clothes.

C-oronation Tap

Quite possibly the greatest cider house in Bristol/the world. Home of the infamous ‘Exhibition’ cider, sold in half pints due to its deadly strength, which has also coined the term “corried”. According to the urban dictionary “corried” means – ‘To have one too many Exhibitions at the Coronation Tap, Bristol’ – “He was corried last night…”

D-owns (The)

A vast area of open space and greenery on the top of Whiteladies road. Find joggers by day and doggers by night.

E-lephant (The)

A historic Bristol pub on St.Nicholas Street. Drinks are fairly pricey so probably not the best place to go for pre-drinks, but great for a nice meal out.

F-ringe (The)

Cute little bar in Clifton village, 2 for 1 cocktails ALL DAY (before 8pm). Live music, open mic nights and stand-up comedy… Something a bit different to do on a Saturday other than Bunker.

G-loucester Road

Home to the largest number of independent traders on any road in the UK. If you’re a bit too alternative for the predictable chain stores in Cabot head to Gloucester Road. It won’t disappoint.

H-ill (The)

Jazzy decorations, gourmet pizzas (including a duck wrap pizza… it’s as fantastic as it sounds) and comfy sofas. A perfect place to cure a hangover.

I-llusions

This is a bar which has Live Music and Magic every night. Live. Friggin’. Magic. Nuff Sed.

J-ason Donovan

Where do I begin with this? This Holy Grail? This beacon of hope for all drunken revellers. A night is simply not a proper Bristolian night out unless it is finished with a kebab and/or cheesy chips from Jason.

K-ings Arms (The)

Located on the top of Whiteladies Road, it also does 2 for 1 burger deals and is reasonably priced.

L-izard Lounge

Did someone say £1 Fosters? Obscenely cheap drinks at Lounge which brings you all the classics, from the “Baywatch” theme tune*, to “Stacey’s Mom”, to any number of Blink 182 hits, it’s understandable why people feel a need to be drunk in Lounge.

*Queue people taking their tops off.

(Just look at the DJ knowing he has absolutely nailed that night’s performance)

M-otion

Most definitely Bristol’s best music venue, located next to Temple Meads station in a converted skate park. Can only fault it for two things: distance to get there and the price of the drinks (although everyone’s either drinking water or red stripe).
