‘I let my housemate cut my hair and now I look like a mushroom’

An out of pocket fresher has been left with a mushroom top after he was too skint to pay for a hair cut.

Ollie Phillips asked his flatmate to chop his mop so he could save money.

Lizzie Atkinson, his helpful flat mate, kindly agreed to give the politics student at Nottingham Trent a trim despite the fact she had never cut hair before.

He said: “My hair was just too long and I couldn’t afford a haircut so I got some clippers and asked my flatmate to help.

“She has completely butchered me. I thought following a straight line would be pretty simple.”

Ollie showed Lizzie a quick YouTube tutorial on how to use clippers and away she went.

She said: “I warned him I’d never cut hair but I started anyway and it just went downhill from there.

“I was scared and kept checking with him that I shaving it right. It was all going okay and then attempted ‘blending’.”

The pair, who live in Norton Court, became infamous after Lizzie sent snapchats of the awful mop chop.

Lizzie exchanged horrified looks with her other flatmates before telling Ollie about the mistake she had made.

She said:  “I felt so bad when I told him, it was funny cutting his hair but I genuinely did not want to mess it up.”

Feeling guilty, Lizzie put out a cry for help on Facebook to see if anyone could salvage the situation.

“Can anyone in Norton Court cut mens hair? My flatmate looks like a mushroom. Help.”

Ollie is currently on events week so has just a few more days before he needs to be seen in public.

He said: “I can see the funny side obviously, but I look like simple Jack from Tropic Thunder.

“I’m back in lectures next week and this needs sorting. I’m just going to ask around to see if someone actually knows what they’re doing, if not it’s a matter of survival until I go home in December.”

Ollie has now shaved his head. So instead of a mushroom, he looks like an egg.
