A man has been stabbed in East Street, Brighton

He was left critically ill in the early hours of this morning


The man, who was in his 20s, was violently assaulted at  2:27am. It took place on East Street, near the junction with North street.

He has since been taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital where he is being treated for chest wounds and is in a critical condition.

Since the attack, the area has been cordoned off and is being watched over by police. Eyewitnesses have said that forensics specialists appear to have been at the scene. Police have also sealed off a part of the Royal Pavilion Gardens.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Wolstenholme has said: “We are treating this as an isolated incident.”

He ensured that  there is “nothing at this stage to suggest there is a threat to the wider community.”

The police are urging anyone with any relevant information – specifically if you have heard or seen anything in or around the Royal Pavilion Gardens in the early hours of this morning – to contact police.
