A woman has been stabbed in the public square


Sussex Police have cordoned off Norfolk Square in Brighton following a stabbing just before 2pm. The Argus reported that a 34-year-old woman has been hospitalised with injuries to the abdomen.

Investigations continue after police arrested two people in connection with the stabbing. It was reported that the two suspects ran to the seafront to flee the scene.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police told The Argus: “Police were called to a report of a woman being stabbed in Norfolk Square at 1.45pm on Thursday.”

“A woman, 44, and a man – no further details – have been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and remain in custody for questioning.”

She added: “Anyone with information or who witnessed what happened is asked to report online or call 101, quoting serial 744 of 07/05.”

South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed that their ambulance crews attended the scene at approximately 1:50pm.

Norfolk Square will remain cordoned off as investigations continue.
