Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle is under fire after posting a controversial video

Lloyd Russell-Moyle has faced calls to stand down.

Current Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven Labour MP, Lloyd Russel-Moyle is facing calls to resign after he claimed the conservatives have “conspired to murder” the British public. It was reported that these comments were made in the run-up to the general election campaign last year.

In the video it was claimed he said his constituency was “not Tory-free enough for my liking.” He continued “We’ve still got a few more to route out, but because of your fantastic door-knocking, we know where they live.”

Conservative Councillor Joe Miller, who contested the seat against Mr Russell-Moyle in the election, said the comments call into question his role as a shadow minister and as MP for the constituency.

Mr Miller stated “Lloyd Russell-Moyle continuing and recent behaviour call into question his position, not only in Labour’s shadow ministerial team, but also as an MP for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven.

“No matter how people vote, he is meant to be there for them. The hatred espoused for some members of our local community by Lloyd, with some very concerning language and tone, leads me to question whether he is the best person to continue representing and standing up for constituents.”

In the footage, it was claimed that Lloyd Russell-Moyle said: “I do not think it is an exaggeration when we say the conservatives have conspired to murder and let die British citizens.”

He continued: “That is what they have done and that is what they will continue to do.” He claimed 100,000 people had died early as a result of Tory austerity.”

Brighton Liberal Democrat Ben Thomas, who also stood against him in December commented “Lloyd Russell-Moyle agreed with me that we all need to be more thoughtful with our language and make politics less tribal. Yet he’s often the first to make incendiary comments himself.

Ben Thomas also commented: “His talk into ‘knowing where the Tories live’ is deeply sinister and many of his constituents will feel totally let down, embarrassed and even threatened by their MP. How can he truly represent all his constituents fairly when he just wants to ‘rout’ those who disagree with him? It’s time he stopped seeking the limelight and started actually representing the interests of his constituents.”
