An individual has died after being hit by a train at a level crossing near Lewes

The incident happened this morning near Lewes


Police were called to Selmeston near Lewes this morning after the reports of an individual being hit by a train at a level crossing.

Paramedics pronounced the person dead at the scene.

A spokeswomen for the British Transport Police said they were not treating the incident as suspicious, she reported: “Officers were called to the line in Selmeston at 6:51am am this morning following reports of a casualty on the tracks.”

The line was closed between Lewes and Eastbourne whilst the emergency services were dealing with the incident.

Services have now returned to normal between Eastbourne and Lewes.
