68-year-old man charged with multiple sexual offences against children

Robert Cameron Wells was charged with 19 offences


68-year- old, Robert Cameron Wells, was charged with 19 offences in Brighton Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

These offences were committed in Brighton, West Sussex, Hampshire and the West Midlands in the 1990s and 2000s.

Within these offences, he was charged with one offence of gross indecency and two offences of raping a nine-year-old girl.

As well as this, he also committed indecent assault on a 15-year-old girl.

He faced charges of inciting an 8-year-old boy to commit an act of gross indecency, attempting to possess an indecent photograph of the boy, and committing a gross act of indecency with him.

He did not enter a plea in court, and was remanded in custody to appear at Lewes Crown Court on April 1st.

The charges were authorised by the CPS following an investigation by the West Sussex Safeguarding Investigations Unit.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “There are no current or recent safeguarding issues or concerns for youth or wider community safety in relation to this investigation.”
