Brighton floods cause chaos for transport links

All trains towards London have been delayed or cancelled

After unusually high levels of rainfall around East Sussex, train tracks and some roads have flooded and have been forced to close.

Thameslink, Southern and Gatwick Express services have been affected with cancellations and delays set to last indefinitely. No services are running between Haywards Heath and Three Bridges.

Officials have urged passengers to make alternative travel arrangements as any remaining trains will be heavily congested. For travel to or from Brighton/Lewes, National Rail recommend travelling to Barnham and changing for the Gatwick via Horsham service.

Earlier this morning, the M23 also flooded after a river burst its banks causing the motorway to close. It has since been reopened, however disruption is expected throughout the area until the end of the day.
