Today four were injured when part of a ride on Brighton Pier came loose. Ambulances rushed a teenager to hospital after he sustained an injury to his leg.

The Argus reported that a spokesman for the East Sussex Fire and Rescue said: "We were called at 3.06pm after reports of part of a ride coming loose”.

The fairground ride, called Air Race, is designed with each seat to look like an aeroplane and one of the decorative attachments surrounding the seat fell off.

The ride is described on the Brighton Palace Pier website as taking riders "on an amazing journey which replicates the experiences and sensations of an acrobatic aeroplane flight, banks, loops, dives and weightlessness that will test even the most experienced of thrill seekers”.

Anne Ackord, chief executive officer of The Brighton Pier Group reported to the Argus that this kind of incident has never occurred on the pier.

She stated: "We have spoken with the manufacturer who will be flying in from Italy for an investigation.”
