Entire library evacuated due to fire alarm

This was no drill

At precisely 2pm today, a fire alarm went off in the University of Sussex's Library, meaning that all students had to evacuate the building and wait in Library Square until it was safe to return.

Despite the timing, it was not a planned drill, and we are currently waiting on the university for comment on what exactly happened in the library today.

Masters student, Tarooj Anwar, said: "It delayed me sending off a job application email."

Photos and videos were shared on personal Snapchat stories and the university Our Story from Library Square as the drama unfolded, leaving many students taking an unwanted pause from doing work.

The alarm caused wide spread disruption as the silent areas became full of noise and the whole building had to be evacuated.
