BREAKING: Van bursts into flames in city centre
Dramatic scenes could be seen from London Road
Sarah GeorgeChaos broke out on Elder Place, near London Road, when a parked van caught fire with a loud bang at 12:35pm.
Fire crews arrived at the scene minutes later in an attempt to tackle the blaze, which is being attributed to a gas canister or other flammable object.
A second bang rang out across the area as the fire crew used hoses and fire extinguishers in an attempt to quell the flames.
Ambulances and armed police rushed to Elder Place, but it is believed that nobody was in the van or adjacent cars during the fire.
The bustling London Road area is home to student housing, offices, and local businesses.
The police have been contacted for comment.
