Sussex is putting an end to 90-minute exams next year

All exams will have to be either one, two or three hours long

Sussex University has announced the end of 90 minute exams next year.

Any exams that are currently 90 minutes long will have to become either one or two hours long, in a bid to make scheduling easier.

The announcement means timetables for exams next year will be dramatically different to this year’s with various exams becoming either longer or shorter.

A university spokesperson said: “No changes are planned for this academic year. From next year exams will be in durations of one, two or three hours, to support consistency and accommodate best practice in exam scheduling.

“Obviously any change in exam duration would correlate with changes to the scope of exam questioning. Students will of course be notified well in advance of examinations and they would have ample time to discuss this with academic staff.”
