Why Sussex should have been your first choice

And all the reasons happen to begin with ‘S’

Last term, we wrote about how great Brighton is after it was voted the best student town in the UK – and they all started with a P. So we thought we’d carry on the alliteration theme with S (yes, we’re Smart at Sussex) – because there are so many in SUSSEX.

The sea

Yes, this is a pretty obvious one, but it is just great living by the sea. Firstly, the sea air is good for you. Fact. NYE is the most beautiful thing, with hundreds of people on the beach and fireworks going off all around. Also summer is just the best – swimming and BBQs on the beach everyday. Oh yeah.

Shopping

With its extensive variety of vintage shops, cafes, restaurants and independent boutiques, you will always be able to find a one of a kind present or a pair of Levi’s that perfectly sculpts your behind. We have the famous Laines as well as all the high street shops you’ll ever need. Winning.

Sex

According to a sex survey last year by the Online Pharmacy UK Medix, we are the kinkiest area in the country. 2, 157 brits took part in the survey to find out how kinky people think they are and how many actually practice safe sex. The South East rated themselves as VERY experimental – an impressive 9 out of 10!! But we’re also gentle souls – for 38 per cent of us, spooning is our favourite position. Cute.

Seafront clubs

Have you ever been fucked and been able to stumble to the beach and stare at the starlit sky? Well we do that all the time. From Pryzm to smaller clubs and pubs, we’ve got anything you would wish for all in one place.

Super fit

We have over 25 sport societies. From the obvious like rugby, cricket and football to the less common like trampolining, surf, fencing, sub aqua and even blind football.

Smart/studying

Sussex is actually a really good uni: we’re number 19 in the Guardian league tables. What’s more is we have some amazing tutors who have made invaluable contributions to their disciplines.  It’s not every day your tutor has proved a theorem or written one of your core readings, but at Sussex, we’re used to it. We also have a 24 hour library, because we just love studying that much.

Student activism

Firstly, it’s nice to be in a uni where the majority of people are politically active, or at least keep up with politics. There are always new campaigns, protests and solidarity movements. If we’ve got a problem we’re not afraid to do something about it. We’re also all BFF with Caroline Lucas, she always comes to chill with us in the library. Love you Cazza xo

The slope

Exhibit a) East Slope

If you go or went to Sussex, this one doesn’t even need explaining. But for those of you who wish you went to Sussex, Eastslope (one of the on-campus student accomodations) is definitely one of the best things about living on campus.

Surviving the mould in the showers and the everyday encounters with the false-widows is a small price to pay for the amazing parties and general great vibes. Not to mention, you get to wake up every morning knowing that all your bezzies are 30 seconds away (and if you’re lucky they’ll wake you up with a cuppa in the morning!)

The South Downs

Literally in the middle of the South Downs, our campus is surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside in England. Just a few minutes walk up the hill from campus and you will find yourself stumbling upon a field of cows or amidst a beautiful forest – perfect country walk material.

It’s also pretty perfect when you’re on an acid trip.
