Sussex archive pics reveal what our uni used to look like
We’ve always been a bit political
With under three weeks of summer left, the Students’ Union are preparing for what will be an unforgettable week of blurry nights and blurry faces for our freshers. Before looking ahead to the new year, we’ve delved into the archives to look at how Sussex has changed over the years since it was opened in 1961.
Above is the first initial model building of Sussex. In comparison to our campus now, the early model of the university was a lot smaller.
Yet, some things never change. The library today is pretty much the same as it was before.
Through the years, our Students’ Union has always had a strong political presence on and off campus.
Sussex didn’t become the diverse and innovative institution it is today without some struggle. We owe a lot to the compassionate, accepting and politically-educated alumni who paved the way for us to live and grow in an environment in which individuals celebrate each other’s individuality.
