Sussex will have a UKIP society, union officials have confirmed.
Sussex Students Union had addressed concerns about the vetoing of a UKIP Society on campus and have now given the go ahead to their formation.
A link to the society can now be seen on the Students Union Sports, Societies and Media page, the name changed from the initially proposed Young Independence to simply UKIP.
Commenting on the turnaround, Activities Officer Lyndsey Burtonshaw said: ”In line with freedom of speech and the fact that they are considered by some to be a mainstream political party now they have been allowed to form a society.
“But I am quite concerned by the amount of students who have come forward to me saying that they might not feel safe. The Students Union has a guideline for participation that must be followed.”
