Revealed: The unis where grads earn more than £70,000

They’re all finance jobs

Cambridge grads entering a career in finance are set to earn a whopping £91,000 a year, making it the best UK uni for a high paid job in the industry.

Unsurprisingly, Oxford followed in second place, with students leaving for jobs in finance  earning an average of £85,000.

The rankings produced by Emolument.com, who compare the salaries of graduates, revealed the average across all UK and Irish unis was still a hefty £62,000.

The study was based on 11,000 graduates from UK and Ireland and focusing on undergraduate degrees, with the salary including fat cat bonuses.

Students from unis with the best prestige and tradition earn a lot more, with recruiters favouring reputation over course content, proving it’s not just Economics grads making the big money.

You could earn £70,000 working in finance

Edinburgh was the only uni outside of England to make the list, while Durham failed to make the cut.

London uni featured prominently in the ranking, with Imperial, LSE and UCL all proving that you should learn and earn in the city.

Alice Leguay from Emolument said: “Counterintuitively, the top universities for finance are not necessarily the ones with a reputation for being business-focussed, but Oxbridge and other well-known Russell Group institutions.

“It seems UK recruiters are less concerned about vocational course content, giving more weight to a university’s reputation and prestige.”
