Five students were the victims of a series of unprovoked attacks in Stirling city centre last month.

At around 9.10pm on Saturday April 25, three male Nigerian students were assaulted and racially abused in Cowane Street and Wallace Street by two men described as being aged between 20 and 22.

The suspects are believed to have left a local pub before assaulting students on Wallace Street

The two men shouted racial abuse at the Nigerian students, goaded them to fight, threw a pint glass at them and assaulted one of the victims by pushing him and kicking his legs.

The attack stopped when a member of the public stopped his vehicle to check on the victims, and police have indicated they are keen to trace this person.

The two unidentified males then left the scene and entered Bruce Street, where they assaulted two more students in another unprovoked attack. One of the students assaulted was a 19 year old female, who was violently attacked as she attempted to flee the culprits.

The culprits then moved on to assault students on Bruce Street

Inspector Jim Young said: “The behaviour of these two males is very concerning. They were first noticed in Viewfield Street and they then entered Cowane Street where they started their crime spree.

“Due to one having a pint glass in his hand it’s likely they have been in a local pub before this and we’re currently checking licensed premises and CCTV to identify them.

“They have targeted everyone they have come across which includes a female. Due to the time of night and city centre location someone will have seen them and know who they are.

“I am appealing for witnesses to come forward and help identify them. If you know who they are then please let us know by calling Police Scotland on 101 or if you wish to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
