Stirling has been ranked in the top 100 universities under the age of 50 by Times Higher Education.

The University of Stirling comes in at 56 on the list, making it second in Scotland and eighth in the UK.

The list aims to show potential in younger universities that don’t yet have the credentials afforded to them by centuries of history and respect.

Stirling may be young, but it can hold its own

Phil Baty, Time Higher Education rankings manager, has called the universities featured in this list “remarkably bullish”, stating that they are “happy to compete on equal terms with the old guard and confident of their ability to thrive in a dynamic and diverse higher education sector.”

The ranking uses a similar scale to the one used for the top 100 universities worldwide. However, the ranking scheme has been changed to reflect the goals and qualities of younger universities, giving less weight to criteria such as academic reputation.
