St Andrews students still able to travel home despite Covid restrictions, uni confirms

Students will be able to join one other household

An email from the Principal this afternoon assured students they would still be able to travel home for Christmas.

This is despite the Scottish government announcement yesterday that  non-essential travel outside of Tier 3 and 4 areas in Scotland will be banned.

The email also noted students will be able to join one other household such as your family home.

St Andrews was moved to Tier 3 last week following a rise in cases.

The Principal said: “I am aware that some of you are concerned that the new laws on travel between local authority areas, which come into force on Friday, might mean you were unable to leave St Andrews.

“That is not the case, and you should not alter your current plans.”

The email also reminded students the University will be offering “all new rapid Covid tests very shortly”.

It also said information about the new testing centre in St Andrews, and how you can book a test online, will be made available to students within the next 24 hours.
