Who’s tragic now?

According to US News, University of St Andrews is now ranked 23rd best uni in the UK and 214th in the world.

750 global universities were judged against each other primarily on their research performance and its ratings by members of the academic community around the world and within Europe, meaning St Andrews is in the top third.

Some serious work going on in here

Principal and Vice-Chancellor Louise Richardson, who is leaving St Andrews for Oxford in January, said  “This is a terrific achievement, and is largely due to the increasing influence of our research and the extent to which the remarkable work that takes place here is cited around the world.”

She went on to say “This result speaks to our continuing commitment to academic excellence and to our enthusiastic adherence to the essential values of independent scholarly endeavour.”

However, one student was pretty surprised that other universities that rank lower than St Andrews in the UK tables ranked higher in the world rankings. He said “How is that Warwick, Durham, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester, Bristol and UCL are all ranked above St Andrews?”

The UK tables may offer some comfort, with The Guardian University Guide 2016 and the joint Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2016 ranking St Andrews best in Scotland and 3rd in the UK.
