St Andrews ranks first as the most expensive place to book a hotel room, ahead of London

Take that Oxbridge

Ever wondered why your parents can’t be bothered visiting you?
As St Andrews takes the 1st place in the Hotels.com rankings, you might have the answer.

The ranking from Hotels.com is based on their Hotel Price Index for 2014, and it includes transactions made through their website.

St Andrews ranked 1st with an average of  £156 per night to stay. This is an increase of five percent from the £148 per night the previous year.

St Andrews even beat London, which averaged a price £136 pounds per night.

Those prices are sure to become even higher this summer, as the 144th Open golf tournament returns to St Andrews.
