Ready to launch – STAR returns!

“There is something for everyone so definitely get involved”

After a substantial hiatus due to Union redevelopment, our beloved St Andrews Radio will return this week in a brand new studio and with a brand new attitude.

I caught up with SSC Broadcasting Officer Sean McDonald, who divulged that he was particularly excited “to see how we can expand STAR this semester”. If any of you made it to Refresher’s Fayre on Sunday you may have seen the pinnacle of this expansion in the form of a sparkly new studio, which will serve as a great relief to the radio heads who were forced to trek to the Gateway Building last semester. This impressive addition to the Student’s Association is one many aspects of its £12 million redevelopment scheme, and gives St Andrews Radio the professional and exciting broadcasting space that it deserves.

Ladies and gentlemen – the new studio!

However, this is not the only change that can be expected within the STAR community in 2015. Sean’s vision is all about involvement and a sense of inclusion throughout the student body: “STAR is a subcommittee within the Union, which means everyone is a member. It is my aim to get as many people involved in our news, music, press, event, and production teams. There is something for everyone so definitely get involved”.

This outlook will be embodied in the rebranding of shows, with a particular concentration on revealing personalities behind the voices that you tune in to each week. And as you may have realised from previous STAR socials such as The Cosmic Cabaret, they are quite a fun bunch.

All will be revealed in due course – in the meantime, contact any subcommittee heads HERE if you want to get involved with STAR, get excited about this semester, and be sure to listen in from Wednesday at https://www.standrewsradio.com/
