Five things to do this week

Hit up those Black Friday sales.

1. Make the most of the last day of sales

I’m sure you’ve all taken advantage of the Black Friday sales this weekend despite the scant selection of clothes shops in St Andrews. Thank goodness for online shopping! Today is the last day of sales in a number of shops, including AllSaints, Topshop and French Connection, so if you’ve had your eye on that pretty, but completely impractical lace top for a while now, today’s the day to make a rash purchase!

2. Take a break at MINIMOOD

If you’re feeling a bit jittery and in the mood for grooving after a few days of productive revision, head to 1 Golf Place on Thursday at 22:00 for MINIMOOD, Moodroom Collective’s electronic music night. There’ll be a 10% discount on drinks, as well as free entry, good news for those of you whose student loans have inexplicably vanished from your bank accounts.

3. Get in the Christmas spirit at the University of St Andrews Carol Service

On Friday, be sure to take a break from revision and attend the university carol service at Holy Trinity Church from 20:00 until 21:30. It’s the perfect way to start the festive season and say goodbye to friends before exams and a long, well-earned break! Doors open at 19:15, but I’d strongly recommend going early, as it’s always difficult to secure a seat with a good view of the readers and musicians.

4. Submit an idea for On the Rocks

Event applications for On the Rocks, a student-run arts festival, are now open, and you have until the 10th of January to submit your idea. The committee is looking for a piece of drama, dance, music, art or anything else creative you can think of. The festival is renowned for its diversity and originality, and so any interesting idea which occurs to you is worth a shot! For more information on the application process and funding, have a read of the the festival’s website http://www.ontherocksfestival.com/put-on-a-event.html.

5. Relax, don’t stress

Rather than stressing about exams, take a breather, buy some green tea, Green & Blacks chocolate (my downfall!) and plenty of fruit and vegetables to keep you calm and energised throughout the next couple of weeks. Go to bed early, go to the gym, take a bath, do whatever it is that makes you happy and relaxed so that you’re in a good frame of mind to revise and sit your exams.
